The Cheapest Key is Laurence Blakely (guitar, vocals) and Laura Chartier (keyboard, vocals), based in Anchorage, AK. TCK plays original music featuring close harmonies and piano/guitar counterpoint, with folk and Americana influences. The duo released their first album, Postcard, on January 25, 2019.
A signature part of TCK's sound is the closely blended vocal harmonies of Blakely and Chartier, who formed the band in Alaska in 2015. Both musicians are originally East Coasters (Rhode Island and New York, respectively) who became longtime Alaska transplants. The band has performed around Alaska at the Alaska Folk Festival, the Anchorage Folk Festival, the Seward Music & Arts Festival, Arctic Entries, and various other venues. Both Blakely and Chartier have been featured songwriters at Parlor in the Round.
Expect an eclectic sound on the new album, which covers broad musical territory and features a range of special guest Alaska musicians, while retaining the TCK core of harmonies and closely woven arrangements. For bookings, and more info, visit our Contact page.
